Through our partnership with non-profit environmental conservation organizations, Vina Robles plants trees with a portion of the proceeds from every bottle of The Arborist sold.

Partnering with One Tree Planted and the Arbor Day Foundation is a natural extension of the winery’s passion for trees and sustainable viticulture. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization on a mission to make it simple for everyone to help the environment by planting trees. Founded in 2014, One Tree Planted has doubled the number of trees it has planted every year.

The Vision

The Arborist, a dynamic red blend, is dedicated to our founder Hans Nef, and named for the arborist who saved the life of the iconic 300+ year-old oak tree featured on our label. Mr. Nef was known for his love of trees; he named the winery for them (robles is Spanish for “oaks”) and put an oak tree on the first Vina Robles wine label. That same tree still exists and is rooted in our estate Jardine Vineyard. Which is rather profound, as its health was declining when Mr. Nef purchased the vineyard in 1997. We are grateful to the arborist who was able to save it in 2014, allowing us all to continue to benefit from its beauty and positive environmental impact.

Environmentalists

As farmers, we are environmentalists by nature. We began planting vineyards in 1997 and currently own and farm 1,200 acres across the Paso Robles region. The winery is powered by solar energy and all our wines and vineyards are SIP Certified sustainable.

The Wine

Varietal - Red Blends Estate Collection

The Arborist is an artful blend of red varieties from our six estate vineyards—specifically Syrah, Petite Sirah and Grenache.

This wine was crafted as an approachable cuvée that reflects the passion for creative blends from Paso Robles. The fruit for each lot was picked during the cooler morning hours and cold soaked for two days prior to fermentation. Various pump-over techniques were implemented during progressive stages of fermentation to enhance fruit extraction and to balance out the tannin structure. The wine was then aged in both small and large-format French, Hungarian and American oak barrels for 18 months to cultivate complexity and a soft, velvety finish.

Tasting Notes

The Arborist presents bright, fruit-forward aromas of black fruit, plum and strawberry with suggestions of mocha and fine tobacco.

A luscious, juicy texture reveals flavors of brambleberry, blueberry, dark stone fruits and vanilla cream with hints of cedar. Notes of pepper spice join fleshy tannins on a fine, lively finish.

Pairing Recommendations

This delicious, approachable blend makes an excellent match for classic cheddar cheeseburgers, pasta Bolognese, Short ribs and Veggies such as Sautéed Mushrooms and Grilled Eggplant
