Harvest began with the Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc toward the end of August. Repeated hot spells created certain challenges during the entire harvest, which ended for Vina Robles on October 31st.

Overall it could be declared a “great” vintage as all varieties ripened evenly with good sugar and acid levels. We also benefited from a sizeable crop level and, given the quality of the fruit, this was an added bonus.

The resultant wines are clean and bright with a wonderful fresh fruit quality. These wines are approachable and ready to drink now, yet will age gracefully. This is definitely a vintage to savor.

 

 

 

THE WINES OF 2001

 

Vina Robles 2001 Chardonnay, Edna Ranch

Light pale straw. Intense fresh fruit and pineapple. Refreshing acidity combined with a silky, full body. Flavors of citrus and pineapple satisfy on the finish.

Vina Robles 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate

Dark cherry red. Intense flavors of ripe sweet fruit: plums with a hint of cocoa, vanilla and toasty oak. Full bodied with lots of fruit, soft tannins and a pleasant finish.

Dark cherry red. Intense flavors of fresh sweet cherries and plums and toasty oak. Full bodied with lots of fruit, soft tannins, and a medium finish.

Medium cherry red. Intense fruit flavors with a hint of toasted oak. Sweet fruit combined with very soft tannins, medium body.

Deep purple, almost black. Dark ripe plums, some vanilla and toasted oak. Lots of ripe tannins, long finish. Will age well.

Dark cherry red. Lots of ripe sweet fruit with complex oak flavors. Full, big body with lots of fruit: long finish.

Medium ruby red. Big bouquet of ripe cherries. Hints of dark fruits, walnuts and dark chocolate. Big and elegant, with lots of ripe fruit; well balanced.

Dark cherry red. Lots of ripe and sweet fruit with notes of toasted oak. Full, big bodied with lots of fruit. Will age well.
