Current Exhibit - A Retrospect of Jeff Broome Photography

April 6 - June 2, 2012; Artist's Reception May 31

Being born and raised in Monterey , the most enchanting part of California left an indelible mark on the early life of Jeffrey Lloyd Broome. Beginning in his sophomore year in high school, Jeffrey was introduced to photography, the darkroom and the magic of the first print emerging from the developer tray. This began a quest for knowledge of the medium and a desire to work in the industry.

Free-lancing photography of sporting events for the local newspaper he began to hone his skills. While in high school, he began to take photography courses at Monterey Peninsula College . His first instructor was Al Weber, a fixture of photographic education, taking him under his protective wing, eventually introducing him to Ansel Adams, a giant in fine art photography as he pursued an AA degree from Monterey Peninsula College , where he served as a darkroom assistant in the photography department. He was fortunate to have worked as an assistant for Steve Crouch, one of California 's most recognized photographer-authors. Crouch's unique blend of art and commerce greatly influenced Jeffrey's approach to becoming a professional. Jeffrey received the honor of Who's Who among Students in America Vocations and Technical Schools upon graduating from Monterey Peninsula College . Over the years Jeffrey has assisted numerous Ansel Adams photography workshops on the peninsula and in Yosemite .

Jeffrey holds a Master of Art Degree and is a college adjunct professor of digital photography. He has maintained a commercial photography studio for the last 28 years, his fine art photographs have shown nationally, and his commercial photography has been recipient of a national award as well as dozens of regional awards.

In April 2011, Jeffrey lost his battle with Kidney cancer and passed away. His daughter, Amanda, assisted him for many years and studied under him. Since his passing, she has taken over his business and is continuing his legacy.

His most cherished accomplishment was his family. His wife Ronica, daughters Amanda and Abigail occupied the biggest part of his heart. He spent his final years between Modesto and Monterey and dedicated more time to his personal work.

His family is proud to have this first showing of "A Retrospect of Jeff Broome Photography" at Vina Robles. His daughter Abigail is getting married here at the Hospitality Center in June.
